President Donald Trump canceled his last meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 in November, and the Kremlin wants Washington to take the next steps in arranging new talks.
Predicting the future of the relationship between the U.S. and Russia was made almost impossible by Washington’s “mood swings,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“Hardly anyone will have the guts to make forecasts regarding the future of our bilateral relations for the next two years.” Peskov, however, said Pompeo had not brought to the table any plans for a meeting between Putin and Trump. “Therefore, certainly, the initiative on a new meeting should come from the U.S. side. This may [be] a kind of a full-fledged meeting agreed on beforehand, with a prepared agenda, and this would be more preferable and more necessary given our common interests.”
