65,000 fans and racers crowd the desert in Johnson Valley, Calif. in a show of force, fearlessness and fiberglass

started in 2007 as a single, fun, and challenging day of off-roading between a dozen friends who had decided to do a single big race through all the steep, rocky trails they knew in Johnson Valley in the mighty Mojave Desert north of Los Angeles.

It was a good thing he kept the hammer – so to speak – down from the start, as his margin of victory, once they corrected times, was less than a minute over second-place finisher Jason Scherer. Gomez’ 5:25.47 for three huge laps of the desert race course barely bested Scherer’s 5:46:16 for the win. Technically it was Scherer who crossed the line first, but Gomez had started later, so he won. Josh Blyler took third.

When the dust settled it was Jeremy Jones in his Class 4800 Branik Motorsports Legends car who took the overall win.
