Keystone Saves would enable employers to provide a state-facilitated retirement plan for their employee
As the region’s largest business organization, representing over 130,000 in the Capital Region, the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC believes that our employers want to provide the best benefits to attract talent. It’s why we support the Keystone Saves legislative proposal to provide these businesses with an easy way to expand employee access to a personal retirement savings option.
As reported by the State Treasurer and Pew Research Center, the shortfall of retirement savings for millions of Pennsylvania places an increased burden on social services in Pennsylvania upwards of $14.6 billion over the next 15 years. By just increasing personal savings for retirement a modest amount; we could help avert this potential spending crisis.
We, in the business advocate community, must do our part in raising awareness of solutions like Keystone Saves. Auto-IRA programs have shown enormous success in other states, and they have provided options to many who are lacking access to retirement vehicles. Keystone Saves would enable employers — without charge — to provide a state-facilitated retirement plan for their employees by setting up a simple payroll deduction. Modeled after the highly successful 529 College Savings Plan public-private partnership, Keystone Saves is a commonsense solution to solve a growing problem for employers, employees, and policymakers.
