No. 8 Kentucky defeated No. 3 Alabama in a gymnastics meet on Friday night, showcasing a strong performance despite Alabama's individual highlights.

Alabama's gymnastics team faced a setback in their first road meet of the season, falling to No. 8 Kentucky with a score of 197.300-196.100 on Friday night. The Crimson Tide, ranked No. 3 nationally, struggled on beam, their final rotation, with two gymnasts falling and another having a significant balance check. This resulted in a 48.950 score for the event, nearly a full point lower than their performance a week prior. Junior Gabby Gladieux stepped up with a 9.

Freshman Kylee Kvamme and senior Lilly Hudson both stuck their vaults, earning 9.9 and 9.925 scores respectively. The team utilized a more aggressive approach this week, featuring six 10.0-start value vaults in their lineup, and saw improved execution as a result. The meet began on uneven bars, where freshman Paityn Walker's fall in the anchor position led to Alabama counting a lower score of 9.75 from Jordyn Paradise. Freshman Rylan Fuller shone with a 9.925 performance on bars.Floor exercise, typically a strong suite for Alabama, saw some uncharacteristic errors. While Fuller began with a 9.925, Rachel Rybicki and Karis German both stepped out of bounds during their tumbling passes. This resulted in a lower team score of 49.025 compared to their 49.425 in the season opener. Gladieux once again delivered a strong performance, closing out the rotation with a 9.9 or better score. Gladieux finished second in the all-around with a 49.425, trailing a tie for first place between Kentucky's Delaney Rodriguez and Alabama's Hudson, who both scored 49.450. Despite individual successes and some bright spots, the team's performance highlighted areas for improvement as they head into the rest of the season. Coach Ashley Johnston and her team will use these lessons learned from the first road meet to refine their routines and prepare for their next challenge against No. 1 Oklahoma at home in Coleman Coliseum
