The Crimson Tide is two weeks away from opening its season at home under the lights against Western Kentucky, which will be DeBoer’s first game as coach after he replaced Nick Saban in January. DeBoer thought the cornerbacks were on top of the receivers all day long. “A lot of good things from that group.” DeBoer was asked about some options for returning kicks and punts. The first name mentioned was Germie Bernard. DeBoer trusts him to make good decisions. Jaylen Mbakwe is one of the young guys back there, too. So is Ryan Williams. Kendrick Law is another name DeBoer mentioned.
