Judge quotes Wayne Gretzky in ordering central Pa. district to accommodate female hockey players

The judge also ordered the district to take immediate steps to remediate the harm caused by it not providing them an opportunity to play by recruiting female students and promoting their participation in its ice hockey club program. In April, 34 students including at least four girls tried out for the co-ed non-checking middle school club team.

Correspondence indicates the parents made repeated requests for the district to create another team that could accommodate the girls, Brann said. The report on the Title IX investigation findings released Aug. 15 found the district to be in full and effective accommodation of the athletic interest of the girls enrolled in the school.
