Cook County Judge Ankur Srivastava denies the request for bail from the attorney for the 18-year-old man accused of killing Officer Andrés Mauricio Vásquez Lasso on March 1.
Chicago police Superintendent David Brown and Mayor Lori Lightfoot present Milena Estepa de Vásquez with the Chicago flag from the coffin of her husband, slain Chicago police Officer Andrés Mauricio Vásquez Lasso, after his funeral Mass at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, March 9, 2023. Vásquez Lasso, 32, was shot and killed as he responded to reports of a man chasing a woman with a gun in Gage Park.
Cook County Judge Ankur Srivastava, though, agreed with a previous judge’s ruling and held Steven Montano, 18, without bail in the slaying of Officer Andrés Mauricio Vásquez Lasso on March 1. Montano is charged with first-degree murder, two gun-related felonies and misdemeanor counts of interfering with a report of domestic violence.
