The Team USA gymnast speaks to Bazaar about growing into her style, and hints that her 2024 Paris Olympic wardrobe is inspired by Beyoncé.
Before I interviewed Jordan Chiles in Paris, where she was attending the unveiling of Nike’s Olympic kits in May, I Googled her. The first thing that came up was a YouTube interview in which she confidently says, “I’m that girl.” That same quote was used to title the video, and the sentiment was agreed upon in the comments, with fans writing, “She’s right.” In person, Chiles exudes that same kind of energy. It’s not even something she has to declare, it’s just so obvious.
“She was always known for having long nails. So I thought: ‘Okay, if she was able to do that on track, why can’t we do that in other sports? Why can’t I do that with gymnastics?’ ” Chiles says. “And there’s a typical way you’re supposed to look in gymnastics—if you look it up, you see it. You know it.
