Jonathan Hawkins has a big goal as the new Geneva County boys head basketball coach.
The former New Brockton head coach approaches that goal based off two principles.
Hawkins was officially hired during a Geneva County School Board meeting Thursday afternoon. He replaces Josh Thompson, who resigned from both football and basketball head coaching duties in January. Geneva County hired Elba assistant coach Al Gilmore for the head football position last month. Hawkins comes to the Hartford school after serving this past year as an assistant coach to the defensive line coach for Dothan High’s varsity football team and as the defensive line coach of Dothan’s Carver 9th grade academy football team.
“It is a solid program,” Hawkins said. “They have been winning a lot lately, so I am excited about the opportunity to take over. I feel it is a great opportunity.”
