The Yankees will have a new radio voice for next season as John Sterling moves back into retirement.

Dave Sims is closing in on a deal to be the Yankees' next play-by-play broadcaster, replacing John Sterling in the radio booth.was the first to report the play-by-play news. The report prefaced that nothing is finalized yet, but that the Yankees would approve of WFAN’s choice for him to succeed Sterling.Sterling, who was the Yankees’ primary radio voice for nearly four decades, announced his retirement this past April.

Sims, 71, will be returning to New York as he worked as a sports talk host on WFAN with Ed Coleman from 1989 to 1993. He’s worked as the Mariners’ play-by-play voice since 2007, coming over with a surplus of experience.
