The Jets paid edge rusher Carl Lawson and receiver Mecole Hardman a combined $12 million this offseason to fill critical needs on each side of the ball.

“That hurts everybody,” defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said Thursday of Lawson’s missed time during camp. “Definitely hurts a guy like him, so he’s getting more and more comfortable, he’s getting stronger, his back is feeling better every single day, so as he gets healthier, he’s going to play more and more.”

It seems the Jets aren’t happy with either Hardman’s grasp of the offense or his route-running ability. Either way, he can’t get on the field and Sunday’s demotion off the gameday roster is a further indication of how far away he is from contributing.
