Lawmakers are trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s suicide.

Epstein had been put on suicide watch weeks before he killed himself. : The Justice Department told lawmakers Friday that Jeffrey Epstein was taken off suicide watch after a psychologist found it was no longer necessary.

In a letter to representatives of the House Judiciary Committee, the Justice Department said that Epstein was “removed from suicide watch after being evaluated by a doctorate-level psychologist who determined that a suicide watch was no longer warranted.” Epstein had been put on suicide watch weeks before he died by suicide in his jail cell because he was previously found injured with marks on his neck. Six days later, theMultiple investigations into Epstein’s death are attempting to piece together how such a high-profile inmate killed himself. Officials are looking into claims that guards, who say they were overworked and spread thin, fell asleep during required checks.
