Jason Bateman and Maya Rudolph try to solve Santa's murder in the trailer for the Murderville Christmas special
Murderville has unveiled the trailer for its holiday special featuring Maya Rudolph and Jason Bateman. The series, which premiered season 1 on Netflix this February, is based on the BBC Three series Murder in Successville, following hardboiled detective Terry Seattle solving a murder mystery with a celebrity guest who doesn't know the script and has to improvise their investigation.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Today, Netflix unveiled the official trailer for the Murderville holiday special. It opens by breaking the fourth wall and showing Rudolph and Bateman preparing to step onto the set, not knowing a single thing that is going to happen.
The fact that the series got a holiday special in the first place could be a good sign that the series still has legs and the streaming platform intends to continue into a future season. However, a holiday special doesn't necessarily imply that a Netflix series has longevity. For instance, the Wachowski series Sense8 got a holiday special as a prelude to season 2 in 2016, after which point the show was canceled.
It could be possible that Netflix is waiting to see how this Murderville special performs before deciding on a renewal. In that case, it could possibly take at least another two months for that decision to be officially announced. As fans of Netflix's Neil Gaiman series The Sandman will know well, sometimes the executives at the streaming service need to spend a lot of time with the numbers before passing along their final decisions.
