Walsh was placed on the injured list on Thursday with thoracic outlet syndrome, with surgery still not out of the question.
“It’s kind of one of those things where you can keep the symptoms at bay for a little bit,” Walsh said Monday before the start of a three-game series against the New York Yankees. “The last six-plus weeks have been a struggle for me; it flared up a little bit on me. Yeah, hopefully get more answers and see where we go from there.”
“If he did need surgery, then we’re looking at by spring training he should be ready to go,” Angels head trainer Mike Frostad said. An All-Star last season when he batted .277 with an .850 OPS, 29 home runs and 98 RBIs, it is hard to deny the impact the issue has had on Walsh this season. He was batting just .215 with a .642 OPS, 15 home runs and 44 RBIs through 118 games, with his last coming Wednesday at Tampa Bay.
Walsh’s minimal production was one of a bevy of reasons the Angels have fallen far from expectations this season.
