Democrats have kept the Jan. 6 riot front and center in the four years since it happened, frequently blaming Trump for instigating a mob and sending them to the Capitol to interrupt the process of a peaceful transfer of power. Trump and allied Republicans have described the riot in much different terms, and the former president has suggested he could pardon people who have been convicted in the Department of Justice’s sprawling investigation and prosecution.
“They did it to rob millions of Americans of their votes. They did it because Donald Trump couldn't help losing,” Thompson said. “He would rather subvert democracy than submit to it.” “I was assaulted with a pole attached to the American flag,” Aquilino Gonell said. “President Trump summoned our attackers, incited them. He betrayed us.”
