Flaherty, a former Harvard-Westlake star, says it’s “special” to get the opportunity to play for his hometown team after being acquired in a trade deadline deal on Tuesday.
“I think everyone deep down wants to play for their hometown team, then getting the opportunity to is just special,” said starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, who the Dodgers acquired in a trade with Detroit on Tuesday. “And just being a part of this organization, how good this team is and how good they’ve been for years, is just special.” SAN DIEGO — Jack Flaherty will make his first start for the Dodgers on Saturday. It’s been a long time coming.
With a 7-5 record and 2.95 ERA in 18 starts this season, Flaherty was the best starting pitcher to change teams at the deadline and the Dodgers now expect him to join Tyler Glasnow to front a rotation capable of taking them deep into October. Tigers general manager Scott Harris declined to comment when asked about the report on Wednesday. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said he would have traded for Flaherty but “I had difficulty matching up” on the return.
Betts will not necessarily go on a minor-league injury rehabilitation assignment before rejoining the Dodgers, Roberts said.
