Jack Black wants to see a Red Dead Redemption adaptation, and he isn't the only one, as the adaptation could finally legitimize video game movies.
Jack Black mentioned how great a Red Dead Redemption movie adaptation could be, and there's no other game that could better legitimize video game movies. The Rockstar-developed video game is the gold standard of Western gaming, as it tells a vengeful story typical of the genre, but takes it to completely new heights. It's a sprawling epic that takes place in both the U.S. and Mexico, and its almost panoramic vistas already look so cinematic.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Black is totally right, as a Red Dead Redemption movie has the potential to be a spectacular-looking Western movie with an engaging and emotional narrative. It's no secret that video game movies never stick their landings and are always negatively received. Even though movies like The Super Mario Bros.
Red Dead Redemption Could Become A Western Classic After singing The Last of Us' praises, Black suggested a Red Dead Redemption adaptation. The actor commented, "There are some great games that have yet to be explored in television or film. Maybe there's going to be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be, because I think that [has] just as good or [an] even better story than The Last of Us.
The Last of Us proved that video game material can be taken seriously and turned into a compelling and amazing-looking series. However, as video game movies struggle because they only have two hours to tell a story that usually takes around 20 hours to tell in the video game, it's always going to be easier to adapt the source material with a long-form series.
Jack Black Could Play Edgar Ross In The Red Dead Redemption Movie As Black suggested the idea for a Red Dead Redemption movie, he could even have a role in the hypothetical film. Though Black is mostly a comedy actor, he has shown how great of a dramatic actor he can be too. And as he can project his bellowing voice and can sometimes come across as intimidating, he’d be perfect as Edgar Ross, one of the game's villains who ends up murdering Marston.
