Grizzlies star Ja Morant will not play against the Warriors in Memphis on Thursday night after he caused a stir last weekend by showing an apparent handgun during an Instagram Live video at a Denver-area nightclub.
Morant was investigated by Glendale, Colorado police but not charged in relation to the video, which went live on Morant’s account in the overnight hours after Memphis’ Friday night loss to the Nuggets in Denver. The NBA is investigating the video: The league’s collective bargaining agreement directly prohibits a player from possessing a firearm while on team property and while traveling on team business. It is not clear if the gun belongs to Morant.The Washington Post reported last week that Morant got into a fight with a 17-year-old boy during a pickup basketball game at his house last summer, eventually emerging from his home with a gun.
“Any and every allegation involving a firearm has been fully investigated and could not be corroborated,” Jim Tanner, Morant’s agent, said in a statement, per ESPN.“You gotta have enough common sense to know that wasn’t going to go the way you wanted it to go,” Shaquille O’Neal said on TNT Tuesday, referencing Morant’s decision to show the gun on live video. “You’re not a rapper, you’re an NBA player.
