CSome children held and wore gas masks in solidarity with Iranian schoolgirls who wear them in classrooms to protect against chemical poisonings.

“We need local reps to realize we exist and we care,” Aubin said. “They have no idea we’re in their constituency.”

While marching along Commerce and Main streets downtown, some children held or wore gas masks in solidarity with Iranian schoolgirls who wear them in classrooms to protect against chemical poisonings. The government originally downplayed the issue as hundreds of girls became ill from inhaling noxious fumes while in class, but eventually opened an investigation into the alarming incidents, according to The Associated Press.

Ozzie Mokhtari of North Richland Hills carried a pair of gas masks as IranzVoiceDFW, and other grassroots groups, gathered at the John F. Kennedy Memorial in downtown Dallas. The group condemned recent poisoning attacks of schoolgirls in Iran. They also marched through downtown demanding further sanctions against the regime, March 12, 2023.

Others held signs that depicted what women in Iran can’t do: gain custody of their children after divorce, rollerskate in a T-shirt and shorts or ride a bike in public. Under the current regime, single women aren’t allowed to rent their own apartment, according to some posters. “As a woman in Iran, I can’t have equal rights and am treated as a second-class citizen,” one poster read.
