Is Jeremiah Smith already making a case for being Ohio State's best wide receiver ever?
Last week against Penn State he broke Cris Carter’s school record for the most receiving yards by a true freshman . This week he used a win over Purdue toBut now he’s established himself as one of the nation’s top receivers even as a freshman, and he’s been so good that it’s made losing a Heisman Trophy finalist look like no big deal.
Harrison’s 2023 season was the no-brainer No. 1 given his value to an offense, which often came down to how often the Buckeyes could get him the ball. Numbers 2-10 could be up for debate. But that No. 1 spot might not be safe either. Smith’s Heisman candidacy might not be as strong as Harrison’s given the weapons around him and there being more potential candidates around the country. But through nine games he’s not far off in terms of production.Harrison is probably still the better season as it solidified him as the best receiver in school history, but his reign at the top might not last long.
He was ready to dominate on Day 1 and it sets up what could be the first time the Buckeyes have seen one player with multiple 1,000-yard seasons. And it’s the player who replaced the guy who was the first player with two 1,000-yard seasons.
