Texas is bracing for a severe heat wave, with temperatures already nearing 100F by late morning on Thursday.Even as the sun sets, western Texas will not find relief, with forecasts predicting sweltering nights ahead.As with California, New Mexico and Nevada, officials have issued a severe weather warning, with guidelines for people in affected areas on how to tackle the sweltering heat.The heat dome that lingers over western Texas is expected to last until Saturday.
That's about one child every 10 days killed in a hot car,' warns the United States Department of Transportation.According to Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas is one of two states with the highest number of hot car child deaths. In summer 2023, 3 out of 16 pediatric car deaths happened in Texas.The most common cause is a caregiver forgetting their child is in the car. It only takes about 30 minutes for the car to reach deadly temperatures in triple digit heat outside.
