Would the iconic sports car company be the same with one of these alternative emblem designs?
The Porsche crest—which was recently redesigned, albeit barely—has been an important part of the company's identity for decades. But the company predates the crest , and while it was still fresh, even those within the company had doubts about its enduring appeal. Or, more accurately, about its recognizability at a glance, in traffic.
The complex shield-within-a-shield design, with its myriad colors and elements, is a blur at speed, something dealers and sales managers were writing letters to the company about. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz tri-star is simple, easily recognizable, and looks as good in black-and-white advertising as it does on the nose of the company's cars.
