In the two decades or so since Bluetooth was launched, the wireless technology has had a bit of a bad rap from audiophiles who decided it wasn’t quite good enough for their delicate ears. There is some truth in the criticism but with recent codec developments and the launch of aptX Lossless and L DAC , there’s no reason why Bluetooth wireless headphones can’t sound as good as wired ones.

Next to that is a USB-C port for connecting a laptop, desktop or smartphone to the iFi Zen Blue 3 which then works as a DAC before transmitting out on Bluetooth. Finally, there is a stubby Bluetooth antenna that is white. Not sure why it’s white as it does look a little incongruous against the graphite grey casing of the iFi Zen Blue 3.
The iFi Zen Blue 3 requires a read of the manual to understand all that it is capable of. Most people might use it to transmit any source on an old-school hi-fi system to a pair of Bluetooth headphones or earbuds. They may also use Zen Blue to transmit Bluetooth audio from a top-notch music streaming service like TIDAL to their old-school hi-fi.
