for Givenchy last Sunday. There was no big show, no celebrity guests, no A-list dinner afterwards, and the meet and greets typical of designer debuts happened over Zoom. But if COVID-19 dampened the launch festivities, it didn’t diminish the industry’s interest.
“I have a deep love for clothing and creating—that’s what I love to do—and it’s an enormous honor for me to be the first American to design at Givenchy,” he toldWilliams’s journey to Givenchy began in Pismo Beach, California, skateboarding, surfing, and soccer playing. “Looking back now I realize how unique a place it was to grow up,” he says.
Proximity to Los Angeles led to gigs with Kanye West and Lady Gaga. “Fashion in general is a collaboration. So what can we expect from his Givenchy? “When I think of Givenchy, elegance and sophistication come to mind,” Williams says, “and a really strong connection to Paris, Hubert’s connection to Hollywood and Audrey Hepburn, this elegance and class that has always really been exuded in his work and the brand’s history.” He continues: “Craftsmanship is one of the most beautiful things about making clothing.
