I’m 35 weeks pregnant and just got laid off from the tech company where I’ve worked for two years. One of the reasons why I took the job in the first place was that it offered great benefits and we were thinking of starting a family. Now, of course, I won’t be getting any of that. Instead, I got eight weeks of severance as part of my exit package.
I’m devastated and anxious and so upset that we’re in this position at a time that should be joyful. My husband, thankfully, is still working, but I made more money than him and his work is less stable . He was planning to take some parental leave, but now it looks like he won’t be able to because we need the income. I’m not sure how I’m going to manage job-hunting while also taking care of a newborn without his help.
