A deadly wrong-way crash on southbound I-15 in Salt Lake City closed all lanes and wasn't expected to be cleared until after the commute.
A wrong-way driver on southbound I-15 died after crashing into a bus transporting military personnel and forcing the closure of the highway at the start of the morning commute on Thursday, March 21, 2024. A wrong-way driver on I-15 Thursday morning died after crashing into a bus transporting ROTC cadets through Salt Lake City, authorities said.
According to a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety, a white Chevy pickup truck was traveling north in the southbound I-15 HOV lane at approximately 6:30 a.m. when it crashed head-on into the bus.Authorities identified the wrong-way driver as a 46-year-old Riverton man. His name has not been publicly released.
It wasn't immediately known where pickup truck entered the southbound lanes or how long the vehicle had been traveling against traffic before the crash happened. DPS didn't specify if the wrong-way driver warning system had been activated.
