People gathered on the campus to call for greater mental health support and suicide prevention efforts by the university. Romano lost her cousin earlier this week. He died by suicide on campus.
One of us works in that building, and one of us in a nearby building. One of us has been in academia for more than 30 years, and the other is a soon-to-be Ph.D.suicide, so we feel a special urgency to speak for those who need help. We are proud Coogs, and we advocate concrete and commonsense solutions, at University of Houston and in the state and nation.Our second ask is for the university to redesign spaces that provide opportunity for suicide. Reducing access to lethal means is among the Centers for Disease Control'sOur third ask is for the university to expand mental health care for students on campus.
