The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team will wrap up preliminary round play on Tuesday morning with a game against tournament host Finland.
Team USA has been an unstoppable force so far in the 2024 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship tournament, winning all three of its Group A games: 9-0 over Slovakia, 8-2 over Norway and 7-1 over Latvia. The championship game more often than not has included the United States, which has won gold 11 times at the IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship and has captured five silver medals and three bronze medals at the competition. The U.S. won its first gold at the event in 2002.
In the win Sunday over Latvia, Trevor Connelly posted two goals and two assists and goaltender Nick Kempf finished with 20 saves — including on back-to-back breakaway attempts on consecutive Latvian zone entries during a first period when he made 15 stops — to pick up his second win in as many starts.. “We’ve done a great job of playing with energy and trying to play a fast style of hockey. We’re happy with where we’re at and excited for the next challenge in a tough Finnish team.
