According to officials, each U.S. household can request up to four free COVID tests. Here's how to order the kits in Illinois.
opened through the United States Postal Service Thursday, weeks after an announcement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that ordering program would resume in"late September.""Your order of COVID tests is completely free – you won’t even pay for shipping," a message from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said.
According to officials, tests available for order are rapid antigen at-home tests. They are not PCR tests, officials stressed. Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, a scientific consultant for the CDC and epidemiologist, said"gastrointestinal issues including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea" have been previously identified as possible symptoms of COVID-19.
People can return to work or regular activities if their symptoms are mild and improving and it's been a day since they've had a fever, but the CDC still recommends those with symptoms stay home. The change comes at a time when COVID-19 is no longer the public health menace it once was. It dropped from being the nation's third leading cause of death early in the pandemic to 10th last year.
