When a dog head-butts a shared fence, it not only destroys pickets, but it also makes it less enjoyable to be in the yard.Our neighbor's two dogs are destroying our fence. Every day, when the dogs are in their house, I have to re-nail the pickets as they have bumped into them so many times the nails are coming out. I have resorted to using screws. We have spoken to the owners, and they have twice promised to build a barrier fence.
Your neighbor can buy a four-foot high by 50 foot roll of chicken wire fencing and roll it across the bottom of the fence and adhere it on their side using a heavy-duty staple gun. It only costs about $50. You also can do the same thing on your side of the fence, as it will double reinforce the fence and prevent boards from popping or breaking altogether. Generally, dogs stop head-butting the fence because they don’t like the feel of the wire against their heads.
If your neighbors were willing to reinforce the fence, they might be open to this idea since it costs so little to implement. Good luck.
