For Symons’ defense, the sellout crowds have had an impact, he said. Pitt had to burn a timeout during the game because of the loud atmosphere, and Symons believes it’s impacted all the opposing quarterbacks that have come through Ford Stadium this year. SMU had just one away game in August before hitting the road for three consecutive games in October against Louisville, Stanford and Duke. Both of the Louisville and Duke games came down to the wire, as opposing crowds tried to swing the momentum in their team’s favor.
“I think the only last challenge is staying all the way to the end if we’re whopping them,” Symons said. “Our guys would love to see them.”
