Living in Topanga Canyon, California, Zoe Ghertner took full advantage of her surrounding nature—especially after it was unavailable to her for a time. “The ocean is an integral part of my family’s life—it’s 10 minutes down the road from where we live,” she says. “We missed it greatly when the beach was closed. It was a sort of celebration to enter the water again.” She decided to commemorate the re-opening with a self-portrait.
