In 2022, a life-altering accident cost me my right eye, launching me into a challenging journey of surgeries, adjustments, and new realities. A year and a half later, I found an unlikely ally in the first-person shooter game Counter-Strike.
Though I’m a casual player with fewer than 1,000 in-game hours, Counter-Strike proved instrumental in helping me adapt. The game’s dynamic environment forced me to refine my spatial awareness and rely more on intuition and auditory cues—skills essential for managing life with monocular vision.Losing an eye significantly affects the ability to perceive depth and distance, making tasks like judging distances or curved trajectories more difficult.
