It didn’t take long for the Chicago Bears offense to get going Saturday in their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. To help contextualize Saturday’s game, here’s our three-phase review.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields laughs while talking with receiver DJ Moore and running back Khalil Herbert in the second quarter of a preseason game against the Tennessee Titans at Soldier Field on Aug. 12, 2023, in Chicago. That’s when quarterback Justin Fields threw a quick screen to wide receiver DJ Moore, who did the rest. With a 62-yard touchdown on their opening possession of a 23-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans, the Bears built encouraging momentum.

Granted, Saturday was a bit of an anomaly with two screen passes producing touchdowns of 50-plus yards. But there was at least a little something to be learned. Backup quarterback P.J. Walker threw a second-quarter interception on a deep ball to Equanimeous St. Brown. The duo didn’t seem to be on the same page, and cornerback Tre Avery easily intercepted Walker’s throw down the left side.Rookie wide receiver Tyler Scott lost a fumble at the end of a 9-yard reception in the second quarter when Shyheim Carter hit him.

“We have a fine ,” he said. “If you break a long run and get tackled inside the 5, you have to pay a fine. That was definitely on my mind.”Bears defensive tackle Zacch Pickens celebrates after the Titans failed to convert a third down in the first quarter on Aug. 12, 2023, at Soldier Field.Third-round pick Zacch Pickens made an early impact with an 8-yard sack of Titans rookie Will Levis.

The longest run of the drive was a 14-yard gain by Tyjae Spears on a toss play. Linebacker Jack Sanborn was too slow filling a hole, cornerback Jaylon Johnson got swallowed by a block on the outside and safety Eddie Jackson’s tackle attempt was of the preseason variety.
