Houston Weather: Cold Snap Expected to Linger Through January

Houston residents can expect a cold week ahead, with temperatures reaching the 40s and 50s. A powerful cold front expected to arrive Sunday will bring a significant drop in temperatures, lasting throughout the month of January.

Waking up in the 30s and 40s and today will feature more sunshine and dry weather. High temperatures will still be below normal with most areas in the mid to upper 50s. Weather will be mainly quiet this week, with the exception of some rain chances on Wednesday. High temperatures will stay at or just below normal through Thursday. Some warmer weather will arrive for Friday and Saturday ahead of another powerful cold front that will clear the area by Sunday.

Behind this front temperatures will free-fall for Sunday into the following week. For the Chevron Marathon Sunday, temperatures are likely going to be in the 40s with sunny and windy conditions, making it feel even colder.That cold weather is expected to stick around through the end of the month according to the Climate Prediction Center. Another outbreak of Arctic air will surge south behind that front, ushering in below normal temperatures into the third week of January.There may be a chance for wintry weather across parts of Southeast Texas during MLK week, however it is still too early for any details on that
