Houston’s 4th gun buyback event tops total guns collects record number of guns
According to officials, the event collected: 275 revolvers, 490 semi-automatic handguns, 228 shotguns, 265 hunting rifles and 188 semi-automatic rifles.
Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis hosted the event Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at NRG Park’s yellow lot.. “After today this should be the most successful local gun buyback program in history.”Attendees received gift cards in exchange for their firearms, and ghost guns were not allowed.
Participants were given gift cards worth between $50 to $200, depending on the type of gun surrendered and whether it was still functional.
