Houston Independent School District (HISD) will introduce a new metal detection system at Lamar, Bellaire, and Northside High Schools following the discovery of multiple weapons on campuses this year. The Open Gate System, similar to technology used at concerts and sporting events, will alert officials to larger metal objects. Students will only need to remove laptops, ensuring a quick screening process.
