As the Bay Area struggles to confront its chronic housing shortage, a new poll shows that residents here are more concerned about the high cost of housing than those anywhere else in the state.

Statewide, 70% of people said both were serious issues.
State officials, often led by lawmakers from the Bay Area, have phased in a number of new laws and policies in recent years aimed at making it easier to build more housing and cracking down on local governments that have long resisted growth.
