There are few New York social functions as starry as the annual MoMa Film Benefit. In its sixteenth year, the event brings together entertainment elites, fashion darlings and art world power players to honor a prolific name in film. Previous recepients have included Julianne Moore, Penelope Cruz, Tilda Swinton and George Clooney— and last night was the turn of actor Samuel L. Jackson, famed for roles in seminal movies such as Pulp Fiction, Shaft, Kill Bill and more.
His wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson described their early days, him a student at Morehouse College with ambitions to be an actor, and she skeptical of his success —until she saw a young Jackson in Pulp Fiction. “I sat in that theater and I started crying,” she shared. “I said ‘my life is over; he’s going to be a movie star.
