Thousands of protesters are gathering in Hong Kong for the 11th consecutive weekend of mass demonstrations in the city. Follow live updates
Today's march is titled"Peaceful, Rational, and Non-Violent Protesters Stand Out" -- perhaps a call for order and restraint after Tuesday's violence at the airport, which shocked many supporters of the movement.The movement has seen participants and supporters across all demographics, but those on the front lines are largely young students, teenagers, and millennials.
Protests in June started over a controversial extradition bill, but protesters are now also calling for greater democracy, the resignation of Hong Kong's leader, an independent investigation into alleged police brutality, and more. With such a wide range of demands, it's hard to determine exactly which motivations are driving which demonstrations.
