Karnes County has now experienced 20 earthquakes in February alone, the strongest happened early Saturday morning.

Falls City is about 40 miles southeast of San Antonio, and as of the 2020 census, had a population of 514. Many residents likely had a rude awakening early Saturday morning as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck just 2 miles southeast of Falls City at 12:32 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The area has been experiencing an increase in seismic activity this month, but this earthquake was the strongest of the bunch. It was historic, too. The magnitude 4.

South Texas town was hit by 14 earthquakes in the last 13 days. Is fracking to blame? The earthquake was tied for the 11th-strongest ever in the Lone Star State. The majority of Texas’ strong earthquakes have come from West Texas. The strongest was a magnitude 5.8 that struck near the town of Valentine in 1932. According to the USGS Community Internet Intensity map, the earthquake was felt in San Antonio and was even felt as far away as Round Rock, 120 miles away from Falls City.
