A student was shot in the leg while in class Friday morning. The shooting occurred at a high school in southeast Dallas.
The Dallas Independent School District superintendent said the student was shot by another student in the classroom at Wilmer-Hutchins High School ."They helped us avoid additional tragedy," said Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde who appeared upset while she spoke to reporters.The shooter, who was armed with a handgun, was captured near the school's stadium. A Dallas ISD police official confirmed the weapon was recovered.
It's unknown how the weapon made its way inside, despite the school being equipped with metal-detectors.Dallas police responded to the scene Friday morning to investigate a shooting, a Dallas PD official told The National Desk over the phone.
