A24 releases the first trailer for Heretic, an upcoming horror movie starring Hugh Grant and Sophie Thatcher about two Mormon missionaries.
The film “follows two Mormon missionaries who attempt to convert a man that turns out to be far more dangerous than they could have anticipated.”. The filmmaking duo previously directed 2015’s Nightlight, 2019’s Haunt, and 2023’s 65, while they were also writers on 2018’s A Quiet Place and 2023’s The Boogeyman.
“I wanted it to feel like my family,” Thatcher said. “My co-star, Chloe East, also grew up Mormon. I feel like we both did a good job of making it real and grounded and not a joke.” Grant is known for starring in movies such as 1994’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, 1999’s Notting Hill, 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary, 2003’s Love Actually, 2017’s Paddington 2, and 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. He recently played a role in Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted, while he’ll soon reprise his role as Daniel Clever in the upcoming Bridge Jones: Mad About the Boy movie, which releases in 2025.
