Democrats can look to 2024.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy wound up with the worst of all possible worlds. After indulging the shut-it-down MAGA caucus in bringing the government to the brink of a shutdown , he did an about-face and relied on votes from Democrats to keep the government operating . Meanwhile, he gave MAGA extremist Rep. Matt Gaetz a pretense to file a motion to vacate, the first step in possibly replacing the hapless speaker.
Third, the more rope MAGA Republicans are given, the more persuasive is the argument to throw Republicans out of the majority in 2024.put it, “It’s not our circus, and he’s not our clown.” Translation: It’s the majority party’s job to organize itself. Democrats should not interfere with Republicans’ fight. Unless they pick someone a majority of them can agree on, we’ll see one standoff after another.
