There is rich history in athletics deeply rooted in Henry County. Saturday night, the Henry County Sports Hall of Fame inducted the latest class which includes eight great people who impacted the community for years.
HEADLAND, Ala. - A three-time All wiregrass athletic Conference and a two-time All-state player. As a senior in 1971, he was named MVP in 2A high school football and contributed to the school winning the state championship in both football and basketball. His performance attracted attention from several colleges, and he chose to attend the University of Alabama , playing under legendary coach Bear Bryant.
McGahee had a career high of 29 points against Ashford her senior year.Mildred started as a power forward 3 of the 4 years with the lady rams Basketball team. She averaged 15 points a game, as a starter at forward. Her highest game being 26 points. Among the many awards that she received were: All-tournament for class 4A girls basketball 1990-1991 & 1993-1994 seasons, hustle award, best offensive player, and MVP awards.
