Multiple heat advisories were issued by the National Weather Service for Sunday and Monday, when temperatures in parts of Southern California are expected to reach the high 90s and into the 100s.

An advisory for the Inland Empire, covering valleys in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, was issued for 10 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday with temperatures predicted to peak Monday around 100-105 degrees. The NWS recommends that residents avoid consuming alcohol or caffeine and drink extra water, check in on elderly family and neighbors, monitor children and pets closely and avoid strenuous activity.

Hikers were urged by the Cleveland National Forest to take safety precautions including hiking early in the morning, bringing plenty of water and to hydrate often. Last weekend we had multiple heat related medical aid calls for hikers in distress. With high temperatures expected through the weekend we suggest hiking early in the morning, bring plenty of water and hydrate often. Know your limitations.
