Shakisha Thompson, 48, was struck and killed while walking along Interstate 83 in Dauphin County on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023. When Shakisha Thompson was in trouble, there was one place she wanted to be — at her sister’s house in Maryland.
Multiple times over the last year, Thompson tried to walk more than 70 miles from Harrisburg, where she lived, to get to her sister in Owings Mill, Maryland. Most of the trek involved walking along the sometimes-narrow shoulder of Interstate 83, one of the midstate’s busiest highways.
