The 40-year-old man faces a possible life sentence and fines over $1 million after a grand jury accused him of trafficking fentanyl in York County while in possession of two handguns in 2022.
A Harrisburg man indicted by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking and firearm charges could spend the rest of his life in prison, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania says.
The indictment says Jean Cortes Malave, 40, distributed fentanyl in York County while in possession of two handguns – a .380 Baretta Pico handgun and a Highpoint 40 caliber pistol – on Nov. 29, 2022. Malave is charged with the distribution of a controlled substance – which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment, at least three years of supervised release and a $1,000,000 fine – and possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking crime – which brings the possibility of life imprisonment, five years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
The investigation was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which aims to remove violent crime and gun violence in neighborhoods across Pennsylvania. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
