Kamala Harris called President Trump’s response to the coronavirus “the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country' at the VPDebate, while Mike Pence said Joe Biden’s plan for the virus looks like 'plagiarism'

Sen. Kamala Harris kicked off the debate by responding to a question about how a Biden administration would respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

She immediately cited the number of Americans who have died and unemployment statistics and said the Trump administration didn’t take the virus seriously enough. Vice President Mike Pence -- who leads the administration’s task force -- shook his head in disagreement. Ms. Harris characterized President Trump’s response to coronavirus as “the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country” and said Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence have “forfeited their right to re-election” because of how they have handled the pandemic.

She did not directly respond to moderator Susan Page’s question about what Mr. Biden would do differently if elected next month. But she did say the Biden administration would have a national strategy of contact tracing, testing, administration of the coming vaccine. Mr. Pence said Mr. Biden’s plan for coronavirus looks a lot like what Mr. Trump did, getting in a jab about plagiarism, an allegation Mr. Biden faced in his previous presidential runs.
