“It’s not about pulling out, but it is about ensuring that we are protecting American interests, and that we are a leader in terms of the rules of the road, as opposed to following others’ rules,” Harris told CBS host Margaret Brennan. China’s President Xi Jinping could end up traveling to Harris’ home state for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ meeting that’s will be held in San Francisco in November. But a meeting between Xi and President Joe Biden during the APEC summit is far from a given; China’s top security agency has said a meeting between the leaders hinges on the U.S. ““I think he is absolutely an important player in this region of the world.
